A Gentle Pace

Adult Therapy

Work at A Gentle Pace is integrative, meaning sessions are tailored to the individual rather than following a single method.

Depending on your goals, sessions may draw from:

• clinical hypnotherapy
• CBT-informed strategies
• nervous system regulation techniques
• performance psychology approaches used in sport and high-pressure environments

The focus is always on clear goals, steady progress and practical strategies that support real-life change.

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is a well-established psychological approach that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

CBT helps people notice unhelpful thinking patterns and develop more balanced ways of responding to challenges. It often includes practical strategies that can be used in everyday life.

At A Gentle Pace, elements of CBT-informed thinking strategies may be used alongside hypnotherapy, nervous system regulation and other integrative approaches where appropriate.

No. Many people begin with a single session to explore whether the approach feels helpful. If further work would be beneficial, this can be discussed together.

We treat a range of issues - see our adult integrative therapy page for more information.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and deep relaxation, where your mind is more open to positive suggestions. It's similar to losing yourself in a film or a good book, you're fully engaged and absorbed, but still aware of your surroundings. During hypnosis, you can access your subconscious mind, which allows you to make positive changes, explore emotions, and shift limiting beliefs in a safe and controlled way. It's not about being “controlled” by the therapist, but about working together to achieve your goals

Hypnotherapy typically follows three key phases: induction, the hypnotic state, and return.

First, during the induction phase, you will follow a guided relaxation to help you achieve a calm, comfortable state of mind. If you have a ‘happy place’ this can be incorporated; your relaxation can take you to a sandy beach for example. Once you're relaxed, you enter the hypnotic state, a deeply focused yet relaxed condition where your mind is open to positive suggestions, this is where the ‘treatment’ takes place. While in this state, you remain fully aware and in control. You can stop the session whenever you wish. Finally, in the return phase, the therapist gently guides you back to full awareness, leaving you feeling refreshed and relaxed. Throughout the entire process, you are always in control of your experience.

Hypnotherapy doesn’t work for everyone because each person’s ability to enter a focused, relaxed state varies. Some individuals may find it harder to let go of distractions or may not be as receptive to the suggestions made during the session. Additionally, a person’s willingness and openness to the process play a key role—if someone is sceptical or not ready to engage, they may not experience the full benefits. However, for those who are open to it, hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for personal growth and change.

Hypnosis is suitable for children and can be very beneficial for them.  At present we don't treat children but can provide relaxation methods that can aid restful sleep and general wellbeing.

Laboratory Testing

Tests use a simple finger-prick blood sample kit you complete at home.

The Annual Health Test requires a venous blood draw carried out by a qualified phlebotomist at your home or workplace.

All samples are securely sent to our UK-based, accredited partner laboratory for analysis.

Results are usually available within 7–10 working days of your sample arriving at the laboratory.

Results are presented in a clear, colour-coded traffic light system (red, amber, green) or shaded ranges. This helps you easily see where your results fall compared to expected levels.

You’ll receive your results directly, along with supporting guidance. A follow-up telephone consultation is included in your test price to help you understand the findings and plan next steps.

No. These tests provide insight into your health markers, intolerances, or allergies, but they do not replace medical advice. If anything unusual is flagged, you’ll be advised to share your results with your GP.

Yes. Alongside your consultation, you’ll also receive practical tools such as food diaries or elimination guides (for intolerance tests), designed to help you make informed lifestyle choices.  Questions about your heath must be directed to a GP

Many people choose to retest annually to track progress, especially for health markers and intolerances.

Aromatherapy

I only use clinically safe oils at professional dilutions. Before your session, we complete a health screening to ensure the oils are appropriate for you. Some oils are not suitable during pregnancy, certain health conditions, or with specific medications, which is why your consultation is so important.

You’ll never be asked to use a scent you dislike. During your session, you’ll explore a small selection of oils and choose the one that feels right for you. This means your inhaler or blend will always reflect your personal preference as well as your wellbeing needs.

Your inhaler should remain effective for around 4-6 weeks if used daily, sometimes longer if used occasionally. After that, the aroma may fade. You are welcome to return for a top-up or try a different blend to support your needs at that time.

Yes, I can recommend high-quality, reputable suppliers if you’d like to explore aromatherapy further at home. However, I don’t recommend using undiluted essential oils directly on the skin. The inhaler or carrier oil provided in your session is blended to be safe and effective.

Essential oils used in clinical aromatherapy are 100% pure and carefully matched to your needs. Unlike fragranced candles or diffusers, your session includes a personal consultation, safe dilution, and a bespoke inhaler to take away, giving you a therapeutic effect, not just a scent.

For safety and effectiveness, inhalers are designed to be replaced rather than topped up. Over time, essential oils naturally oxidise and lose potency, so topping up can make the blend too strong or less effective. A fresh inhaler ensures the oils are at their best therapeutic quality and safe for ongoing use.

Professional Wellbeing

Professional Wellbeing sessions provide a calm, structured space to step away from stress, mental overload and constant demands.

These sessions focus on nervous system regulation and restorative rest, helping your body slow down and release tension so you can return to your day feeling steadier and more balanced.

Unlike therapy or hypnotherapy, the focus is not on exploring problems, but on giving your mind and body space to reset.

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach used to address specific challenges such as anxiety, phobias, habits or confidence.

Professional Wellbeing sessions are lighter and restorative. They focus on relaxation, nervous system regulation and mental reset, rather than therapeutic change work.

Many people use them as a regular wellbeing practice.

You will be guided through calming breathwork, gentle relaxation techniques and simple body-based regulation methods.

No special preparation is needed. Just wear something comfortable and allow yourself time afterwards to ease back into your day.

Guided relaxation is safe and suitable for most people, including those who simply want to reduce stress or enjoy deeper rest. If you have any health conditions, you can mention them on your booking form so your session can be tailored safely.

Yes. Many people find a series of regular sessions helps maintain calm and balance. You can book as a one-off reset, or as part of a package.

Children & Young People

I work with children and young people from age 5 upwards. All approaches are adapted to be age-appropriate and sensitive to each child’s needs.

I offer:

• Drawing and Talking Therapy — a 12-week programme using drawing as a gentle way to process thoughts and emotions.

• Guided Relaxation for Children & Teens — short, calming sessions that support sleep, focus, and emotional balance.

• Clinical Health & Food Intolerance Testing — age-appropriate testing (for children over 2 years) that can provide clarity around possible food or health triggers.

• Drawing and Talking: 30 minutes weekly, over 12 weeks.

• Guided Relaxation: 20–30 minutes (one-off or repeatable).

• Clinical Testing: simple, at-home sample kits, with results explained in a parent consultation.

For therapeutic sessions, no. To help children feel safe and open, sessions are 1:1. Parents are welcome to wait nearby. For relaxation sessions with younger children, a parent may sit in if this feels helpful.

Sessions are confidential, unless safeguarding concerns arise. If that happens, I will always follow safeguarding policy and discuss next steps with you.

Results are presented in a clear traffic-light format. I’ll arrange a follow-up consultation to ensure parents and young people (where appropriate) understand the findings and feel supported in any next steps.

No. These approaches provide gentle emotional support and helpful insight, but they do not replace medical advice or treatment. Always consult your GP about health concerns.wer to this item.

Yes. Parents or legal guardians must complete a consent form before any therapeutic work or testing begins.
